Children's Books Organization (RCBO) is a professional member-based organization that fosters the growth of the children's publishing industry in Rwanda.
It was established in 2015 to promote the production and use of quality books for children by Rwandan publishers.
It was created in 2015 by 11 members. It has grown to 17 members now. RCBO was officially registered in 2018.
Through the formation of Rwanda Children Book Organization Members invested over 500 Million Rwandan Francs in the publishing of storybooks from 2016 - 2019
That linkages related to publishing have grown over the past 4 years inspired by this investment
More authors, illustrators and designers have come up and gained skills as a result
More than 250 regular jobs have been created, plus many more part time jobs
Initiatives that boosted the reading culture in Rwanda
Through RCBO members and partners, a couple of initiatives have been developed and implemented
- GIRA IGITABO AHO URI; a project implemented by Arise Education and USAID /SAVE THE CHILDREN FUNDED Project “Mureke Dusome” and the Government of Rwanda
- ISOMERO URUHONGORE An initiative by Bakame Editions to establish reading corners in public museums
- Well of knowledge and funded by Mudacumura to make Books accessible at local wells in semi-urban neighborhoods
